Making learning more intuitive by incorporating augmented reality in education
With the age of modernization and digitization that we have stepped into the importance of computer technologies and interfaces has increased. Over the past years, global tech giants have invested a lot of money and resources to increase the research and development of futuristic technologies. This has led to a massive increase in the development of these technologies and they have progressed a lot. One of the technologies that received a boost and developed intensively was augmented reality.
Augmented reality is an interface where the computer uses inputs that are given to it about real-life objects and it uses computer enhancements to reproduce those in its interface. The users can see and interact with those objects while they are aware that the objects are not real. In simple terms augmented reality uses computer technologies to put virtual objects in front of the user for them to view and interact with. Augmented reality a few years ago was just a concept that was being developed but now it has evolved into a useful product that is being applied in various fields. Augmented reality gained a lot of popularity for being used in the entertainment industry and was seen as a tool to have fun with. However in the modern spectrum of things augmented reality is used to provide multiple benefits in various fields and departments such as healthcare, construction, architecture, and more.
Augmented reality for education has helped progress how we learn. The ancient method of learning from a book is not enough in today’s modern world where students have to learn complex courses. There are many problems with the current education method that the students have to face and it can be made better with augmented reality. Most of the students who are studying face the problem of engagement. Most of the universities do not want to change their methods and bring in technology. This harms the students s they get the knowledge about their course from long lectures which do not suit their short attention spans. Subjects being taught at the university level are often complex. Learning from textbooks and PowerPoint presentations does not exactly help the students to learn in-depth. The practical experience that the students get is often inadequate as the expense that is required to maintain the laboratories reduce the number of practical classes the students can get.
The students need something intuitive to help them understand their courses better and that is where augmented reality can help. Augmented reality provides a much more in-depth understanding of their subjects as they can see the parts of a machine or the organs of the human body in front of them and interact with it. Being done in a virtual space, they allow the students to get more practical knowledge as the students can practice what they have learned without any limitation of cost or space which might have been a worry to the universities. Having an augmented reality system for the students also helps the university to collect data and understand in what part of their teaching process they must improve and also help the students understand what part of their syllabus is more difficult for them and identify the problem areas.
Mages Studio has worked with the top universities in Singapore. They have helped those universities incorporate augmented reality which has helped them to improve their teaching methods and student interaction.
